Everything you need to know about setting up and using Traders Vault

01 Getting Started

Download, install, and take your first steps with Traders Vault.

Download & Install

Traders Vault is available for both Windows and macOS:

  • Windows — Download the .exe installer from the download page. Run the installer and follow the on-screen prompts. The app installs and launches automatically.
  • macOS — Download the .pkg installer. Open it and drag Traders Vault into your Applications folder. On first launch, you may need to allow it in System Settings > Privacy & Security.

Creating an Account / Signing In

On first launch, you'll be prompted to sign in. Traders Vault uses an invite-based system — an admin creates your account and approves access. Once approved, enter your credentials and you're in.

The Overlay Concept

Traders Vault is a transparent desktop overlay. It floats on top of TradingView (or any application) and uses click-through technology. When your cursor isn't hovering over a panel, clicks pass straight through to whatever's underneath — you can draw trendlines, place orders, and interact with your charts normally.

First-Time Walkthrough

When you first open the app, a guided tour walks you through the main panels and features. You can restart this tour anytime from Settings > Data > Restart Tour.

02 Trading Panel

Track all your prop firm accounts in one unified view.

What It Does

The Trading Panel gives you a single view of every prop firm account you're managing. See balances, daily PnL, and progress toward your goals — all at a glance.

Adding a Firm

  1. Click the + Firm button at the top of the Trading Panel.
  2. Enter the firm name and account details.
  3. Your new firm card appears in the panel immediately.

Connecting Accounts

Traders Vault supports direct connections to the following platforms:

  • Tradovate — Connect with your Tradovate API credentials.
  • Rithmic — Link your Rithmic account for live data sync.
  • CTrader — Authenticate via your CTrader account.
  • MatchTrader — Enter your MatchTrader login details.
  • DXTrade — Connect with your DXTrade credentials.
  • Project X — Link your Project X account.
  • AMP — Connect with your AMP Futures credentials.

Select your platform, enter the required credentials, and the panel will pull in your account data automatically.

Manual Balance Updates

If you prefer not to connect an API, you can manually update balances at any time. Click on the account card and enter your current balance — your stats and progress bars update instantly.

Goal Tracking & Progress Bars

Set a target balance for each account. A visual progress bar shows how close you are to hitting your goal. Great for tracking funded account challenges and payout milestones.

Sharing Your PnL Card

Click the share icon on any account card to generate a shareable PnL image. Post it to Discord, Twitter, or anywhere else to show off your progress.

03 Prop Tracker

Track purchases, payouts, and ROI across every prop firm.

What It Does

The Prop Tracker is your financial ledger for prop trading. It shows exactly how much you've spent on challenges, how much you've been paid out, and your net return — broken down by firm.

Adding Entries

  1. Click the + Entry button.
  2. Select the firm, enter the amount, and choose the type (purchase, payout, fee, etc.).
  3. The entry is logged and your totals update immediately.

Firm Breakdown

Each firm section shows three key figures:

  • Spent — Total money you've spent on challenges, resets, and fees with this firm.
  • Payouts — Total money you've received from successful payouts.
  • Net — Your net profit or loss (Payouts minus Spent). Green means you're in profit, red means you're still in the hole.

Sharing Your Prop Tracker Card

Just like the Trading Panel, you can share a visual card of your Prop Tracker stats. Click the share icon to generate an image with your overall ROI across all firms.

04 Trade Tracker

Log individual trades, expenses, and journal your progress.

What It Does

The Trade Tracker is your personal trading journal. Log every trade, track expenses, and keep a running record of your performance over time.

Adding Trades Manually

  1. Open the Trade Tracker panel and click the add button.
  2. Enter the instrument, direction (long/short), entry price, exit price, and PnL.
  3. Optionally add notes about why you took the trade and what you learned.

Expense Tracking & Categories

Track trading-related expenses alongside your trades. Categorize them (software, data feeds, education, etc.) to see where your money goes beyond just commissions.

Tax Calculator Integration

The built-in tax calculator uses your logged trades and expenses to estimate your tax liability. It helps you stay on top of your obligations without needing a separate spreadsheet.

Importing Data

Already have trade data elsewhere? Import it directly:

  • XLSX — Excel spreadsheets
  • CSV — Comma-separated values
  • JSON — Structured data files

Map your columns to Traders Vault's fields and your data is imported instantly.

05 Discord Panel

Embed Discord chat directly in your trading workspace.

What It Does

The Discord Panel embeds a live Discord chat channel right inside Traders Vault. Stay connected to your community without switching windows.

How to Set Up

  1. Go to Settings > DC (Discord tab).
  2. Enter your Server ID — right-click your server in Discord, select "Copy Server ID" (you need Developer Mode enabled in Discord settings).
  3. Enter your Channel ID — right-click the channel you want to embed and select "Copy Channel ID".
  4. Save — the Discord Panel will now show that channel using WidgetBot.

Using WidgetBot

The embedded chat is powered by WidgetBot, which renders a Discord channel inside the overlay. You can read messages and chat without leaving your charts. Make sure your server has WidgetBot enabled for the best experience.

06 Strategy & News

Pre-market prep, economic events, and strategy notes.

Pre-Market Checklist

Create a checklist of tasks to complete before you start trading each day. Add your own items (review key levels, check news, set alerts, etc.) and check them off as you go. The checklist resets daily so you always start fresh.

Economic Calendar

A built-in economic calendar shows upcoming events with impact levels:

  • HIGH — Major market-moving events (FOMC, NFP, CPI). Highlighted in red.
  • MED — Moderate impact events. Highlighted in yellow.
  • LOW — Minor events. Shown in grey.

Use this to plan your trading around high-impact releases.

Strategy Notes

Jot down your trading strategy, rules, or observations. These notes persist across sessions so you can always reference your game plan.

07 Calculators

Position sizing, risk/reward, and drawdown calculators.

Position Size Calculator

Input your account balance, risk percentage, and stop-loss distance. The calculator tells you exactly how many contracts or lots to trade. Removes the guesswork from position sizing.

Risk/Reward Calculator

Enter your entry price, stop-loss, and take-profit levels. The calculator shows your risk/reward ratio and potential profit or loss in both dollar and percentage terms.

Drawdown Calculator

See how a series of losses affects your account. Enter your starting balance and loss percentage per trade to visualize how drawdowns compound. Useful for understanding risk of ruin and setting proper position sizes.

08 Signal Bot

Send trade signals to your Discord community.

What It Does

The Signal Bot lets you capture a screenshot of your chart, annotate it with a bias, and send it as a formatted embed to a Discord channel — all in one click.

Setting Up

  1. Go to Settings > DC (Discord tab).
  2. Paste your Discord Webhook URL — create one in your Discord server under Channel Settings > Integrations > Webhooks.
  3. Save the webhook. The Signal Bot is now connected to your channel.

Composing Signals

  1. Open the Signal Bot panel.
  2. Select your Bias: Long, Short, or Neutral.
  3. Add a Caption with any context or notes about the trade idea.
  4. The bot automatically takes a chart screenshot of your current screen.

Sending to Channel

Click Send and the signal is posted as a rich embed in your Discord channel. Your community sees the chart screenshot, bias, and your caption — no manual cropping or uploading needed.

09 Market Squawk

Real-time news feed with sentiment and impact levels.

Live News Feed

Market Squawk aggregates headlines from major financial news sources in real time. Headlines are displayed as they drop so you can react to market-moving news instantly.

Impact Level Badges

Each headline is tagged with an impact level:

  • HIGH — Major market-moving news. Pay attention immediately.
  • MED — Moderate impact. May cause short-term volatility.
  • LOW — Minor news. Unlikely to move markets significantly.

Auto-Refresh

The feed automatically refreshes every 45 seconds to keep you up to date. No manual refreshing required — new headlines appear at the top as they come in.

10 Settings

Customize every aspect of Traders Vault.

Theme

Switch between available themes and change your accent color. The theme applies globally across all panels and the dock.

ID

Set your display name and username. Your display name appears on shared cards and your public profile.

Panels

Show or hide individual panels. Reorder them to match your workflow. Only the panels you need are visible — everything else stays tucked away.

Layout

Save your current panel arrangement as a named layout. Load any saved layout to instantly restore a setup. Set a default layout that loads every time you open the app.

Templates

Save individual panel configurations as templates. Useful when you want to reuse a specific panel setup without saving the entire layout.

Glass

Adjust the transparency and opacity of the overlay. Slide it to make panels more or less see-through, so you can always keep your charts visible underneath.

DC (Discord)

Configure your Discord integration:

  • Webhook URL — For the Signal Bot and notifications.
  • Bot Name — Customize the name shown when the bot posts.
  • Notification Toggles — Choose which events trigger Discord notifications.

Set your username, profile URL, and toggle your public profile. When public, other users can view your shared stats at your profile link.

  • Cloud Sync — Push or pull your data to/from the cloud.
  • Export / Import — Download your data as a file or import from a backup.
  • Check for Updates — Manually trigger an update check.
  • Restart Tour — Run the first-time walkthrough again.

Key

Redeem a licence key to unlock premium features. Enter your key and click Redeem — your account upgrades instantly.

11 Layouts & Dock

Arrange your workspace and navigate between panels.

Saving & Loading Layouts

Your layout is the arrangement of all visible panels — their positions, sizes, and which are open. Save multiple named layouts for different trading sessions (e.g., "Pre-Market", "Scalping", "End of Day Review").

The Dock

The dock is the bar that sits on the edge of your screen. Each button opens a different panel. Click to toggle panels open or closed.

Dock Modes

Position the dock wherever you want:

  • Left — Vertical dock on the left edge (default).
  • Top — Horizontal dock at the top.
  • Right — Vertical dock on the right edge.
  • Bottom — Horizontal dock at the bottom.

Overflow Menu

When you have more panels than the dock can fit, extra panels are tucked into a "More" overflow menu. Core panels stay visible; utility panels are grouped inside the overflow for a clean dock.

12 Cloud Sync

Keep your data safe and synced across devices.

How Sync Works

Your data is encrypted with AES-256 encryption before it leaves your device. The encrypted blob is stored securely in the cloud. When you sign in on another device, pull your data and it's decrypted locally.

Pushing & Pulling Data

  • Push — Uploads your current local data to the cloud, overwriting what's stored there.
  • Pull — Downloads your cloud data and replaces your local data.
Always push before switching devices, and pull when you arrive on the new one.

Privacy

Your data is encrypted end-to-end. The developers cannot read your synced data — only you can decrypt it on your device. Your API keys, trade logs, and settings remain private.

13 Updates

How Traders Vault stays up to date.

Auto-Updates

Every time you launch Traders Vault, it checks for the latest version. If an update is available, it automatically downloads and installs before you can use the app. You're always running the latest version.

Check for Updates

You can also manually check by going to Settings > Data > Check for Updates. This triggers an immediate check and applies any available update.

Mandatory vs Optional Updates

  • Mandatory — Critical updates that are required. The app won't launch until the update is installed. These typically contain important bug fixes or security patches.
  • Optional — Feature updates and minor improvements. These install automatically on launch but don't block you from using the app if something goes wrong.

14 Keyboard Shortcuts & Tips

Work faster with shortcuts and pro tips.

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + V — Toggle the overlay visibility.
  • Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + L — Lock/unlock panel positions.
  • Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + D — Toggle the dock.
  • Esc — Close the currently focused panel.

Tips for Best Workflow

  • Save multiple layouts — Create layouts for different trading sessions. Switch between them in seconds.
  • Use the glass slider — Adjust transparency so you can see your charts clearly while panels are open.
  • Pin your most-used panels — Keep core panels in the dock and tuck utility panels in the overflow menu.
  • Pre-market checklist — Use the Strategy panel's checklist every morning. Consistency compounds.
  • Cloud sync regularly — Push your data after each session so you never lose progress.
